Brockton Day Nursery Closures for May 2006

BDN will be CLOSED on Monday, May 29, 2006 for the Memorial Day holiday.

Brockton Public Schools will also be closed on May 29, 2006 for Memorial Day.

Public School Kindergarten Registration May 11 and May 12, 2006
Children born in 2001 need to be registered for September 2006 Kindergarten entry. Call the Parent Information/Registration Center at (508) 580-7950 for further information.

Pre-School Curriculum
You may already know that we use the Massachusetts Department of Education (DOE) “Guidelines for Preschool Learning Experiences” to plan preschool curriculum here at BDN. These guidelines are keyed directly to the DOE Curriculum Frameworks. The Frameworks are used in all Massachusetts Public Schools to create a solid foundation for learning which begins in kindergarten and continues all the way through high school.

Beginning in May you will see a change in preschool classroom newsletters!  Beyond merely the theme/color(s)/letter(s,) you will see each of the GUIDELINES reflected with hints about what activities are planned in Language, Math, Science, Social Science, Health Education, and The Arts. You may want to stop

and look at the bulletin board located on the wall between the Parent Office and the doorway to Room Zero.  There you can check out what all of the Preschool classrooms are doing each month. If you would like more information about the “Guidelines for Preschool Learning Experiences,” or are interested in taking a peek at the Frameworks themselves, please ask BDN Education Coordinator, Merrilee.

Parent Activities Meeting May 16, 2006
On Tuesday, May 16th at 5:30 PM, members of the parent council will meet in the conference room. We will be making plans for the BDN Cookout and discussing the progress on the playground clean up. RSVP to Carol if you will be attending.

BDN Family Cook-Out will be held on June 2, 2006
On Friday evening, June 2nd Brockton Day Nursery will hold its Annual Cook-Out on the playground. The preschool and ASAP program children will entertain us, door prizes will be won, music will be played, and a great time will be had by all.

Please return the RSVP form to the front desk by Monday, May 22nd. When you return the RSVP you will receive a ticket for the cookout. If you have any questions, call Carol. We are looking forward to spending an evening of fun with the BDN Families.
