Brockton Day Nursery (BDN) Programs
are built on the assumption that children learn and develop through active involvement
with their world. Our nurturing, child-focused environments promote children’s
natural development in the areas of cognitive, physical, emotional, and social
skills. BDN programs strive to help children develop at their own pace and to
feel safe and secure in a warm and accepting atmosphere. Brockton Day Nursery’s
developmentally appropriate curriculum fosters each child’s optimal growth
and development. Each group of children is provided with materials and activities
best suited to their particular age and stage of development. For example,
infants and toddlers are grouped in a way that allows each child to eat, sleep,
and interact according to individual needs. Preschoolers are provided a
balance of small and large group activities as well as a balance of indoor and outdoor play.
School-agers (ASAP) are able to rotate throughout three different classrooms to have exposure to a wide variety of activities including homework, reading, games, arts & crafts, sports, and computers.
All age groups enjoy large fenced-in outdoor playgrounds containing appropriate toys and equipment. Playground surfacing has been installed to allow adequate cushioning and safe fall
zones for children.
TYPES OF CHILD CARE
The vast majority of families with children enrolled at BDN are eligible for subsidized child
care. BDN, a non-profit organization registered in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, relies
heavily on funding from EEC to provide the following types of child care to children and families:
SUPPORTIVE CHILD CARE:
For families who are involved with the Department of Social Services (DSS)
because of abuse and/or neglect issues. A closed referral comes directly from DSS. BDN staff work with the family, the social worker, the classroom staff, and other professionals as needed, to develop and implement a service plan for each child in care.
INCOME ELIGIBLE CHILD CARE:
For working parents who meet EEC income eligibility and service need guidelines. BDN holds a contract with EEC for preschool and school-age slots. We presently have no income eligible
infant/toddler slots.
Community Partnerships for Children
also provides income eligible child care slots to families with preschoolers through a
different funding source
(DOE.)
VOUCHER CHILD CARE:
For families receiving Transitional Assistance for Families with Dependent Children (TAFDC.)
Usually single mothers, the parent must attend school or a training program full-time, or begin full-time employment.
Parents receiving Income Eligible or Voucher child care pay a weekly child care fee according to their income and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Sliding Fee Scale for Child Care. Parents with children in Supportive child care do not pay fees. Transportation to and from child care is
provided to children in Supportive child care. Transportation is provided to children in Income Eligible and Voucher child care only if the parent can demonstrate a need for transportation.
BDN contracts with VHS Transportation of Avon and T & T Transportation of Brockton to provide either one-way or two-way transportation for eligible families. VHS also transports all school-age
children to and from 15 different Brockton Public Schools during the school year.
