BDN, a non-profit organization registered in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, is licensed by the Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) to serve 245 children daily.
This includes 54 Infants and Toddlers, 126 Preschoolers (including several
who attend a half day of Kindergarten at Brockton Public
Schools,) and 65 School-Aged children who attend First through Sixth Grade
in the Brockton Public Schools. Special needs children may attend BDN
until age 14.
There are six Infant/Toddler classrooms, each with nine children and three staff
members. Infants and toddlers are mixed, with no more than three infants
per room. Teacher/Child Ratio is 1:3 or 2:9.There are seven Preschool classrooms, each with 18 children and three staff. Teacher/Child Ration is 1:10 or 2:20.
There are three School-Age classrooms which 65 children and five staff members. Teacher/Child Ratio is 1:13 or 2:26. The children are
divided into groups of 13 and rotate throughout each of the three classrooms within each week.
BDN staffing patterns allow us to meet or exceed licensing and accreditation standards, and also
allow classroom staff a fifteen-minute break and one hour lunch each day.
BDN child care services include diapers for all infants and toddlers, and some older
children who are not yet toilet-trained. All classrooms are equipped with
appropriate- sized toilets and sink areas to meet the needs of the
children.
Services also include meals, (breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack) for all children.
Funding for meals is received from the Department of Education's Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP.) BDN has two full-time kitchen staff and a state-of-the-art kitchen for the preparation and service of meals.
BDN is committed to providing the highest quality of services to children and families.
Providing the staff with professional development and training opportunities is one of the most important factors in determining quality. Although EEC requires all direct care staff to obtain 20 hours of training per year, BDN goes above and beyond this requirement by
offering a full-day of staff training each year, the opportunity to attend
several trainings in the community throughout the year, and by paying for
college courses to increase staff qualifications. BDN also provides and
requires training for all staff in First Aid and CPR.
